This spring break is going to be better than any that I've ever had so far. This year I'm going on a mission trip with some good friends from church down to an orphanage in Mexico. When you here the words "mission trip" you usually think of work and no fun. Well mine is going to involve 4 days of hard work but then we get 2 days off in California.
The orphanage we are going to is called Colina De Luz. Which in english translates to hill of light. The orphanage is more like a compound if you would. It is gated and safe. On the inside it's one of the nicest places in Mexico. There is like 60 some kids and they have basketball courts, soccer field, and a huge playscape.
The guy that founded the orphanage is a man named Jim Drake. He made good money working in California then took all his money and made the orphanage.
After we work for 4 days at the orphanage we make our way back to San Diego and spend 1 or 2 nights in Humphrey's Half Moon Inn. By the sound of the name it seems like a dump but in fact it is the exact opposite. It is right down town and on a marina so we get a great view of the ocean. During one day we are there, me make our way to sea world. Last year they went to the zoo so this year we have to go to sea world. A funny story from last year (even though I didn't go), my friend Matt Gran split up with some of the group to grab some lunch, then they were going to meet at the polar bears. I guess the Polar bears are in the back of the park and the group ditched my friend so he ended up staying with a senior girl from my church for the rest of the day.
